Discretizáció

Discretizáció is a fundamental concept in mathematics and computer science that involves approximating a continuous system or function with a discrete one. This process is crucial for numerical computation, as computers operate on discrete values rather than continuous ones. Essentially, discretizáció transforms a problem that deals with infinitely many possibilities into one with a finite, manageable number of possibilities.

The core idea is to divide a continuous range into a finite number of segments or points. For instance, in approximating a continuous curve, discretizáció might involve sampling the curve at regular intervals, creating a series of points that represent the original curve. Similarly, a continuous time signal can be discretized by taking measurements at specific time steps. The choice of how to divide the continuous domain, known as the discretization method, significantly impacts the accuracy and efficiency of the approximation. Common methods include uniform discretization, where the intervals are of equal size, and adaptive discretization, where the intervals are smaller in regions of high change and larger in regions of low change.
