Designer

A designer is a professional who plans, shapes, and communicates the form and function of objects, environments, or systems. Designers rely on creativity and problem-solving, plus knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, user psychology, accessibility, and sustainability. Core skills include conceptual thinking, sketching, modeling, visualization, communication, and proficiency with design tools such as CAD, graphic software, and prototyping platforms.

Education for designers often involves degrees in design or related fields, portfolios that demonstrate range and judgment, and practical experience through internships or apprenticeships. Professional practice is guided by ethical standards and publication or copyright considerations, with some fields governed by professional associations or licensing requirements. Designers work in firms, agencies, or in-house studios, and their work influences products, services, and environments.
