DentalCT refers to dental computed tomography imaging, a radiographic modality that provides three-dimensional visualization of dental and maxillofacial structures. In dentistry, DentalCT is typically implemented as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), which acquires a series of 2D images around the patient's head and reconstructs a 3D volume.

The technique uses a rotating gantry and a flat-panel detector to capture volumetric data in a single rotation or a few rotations, producing isotropic voxels. Field-of-view options range from small regions (single tooth) to full-jaw scans. The resulting data are exported as DICOM for analysis and planning.

Common applications include dental implant planning, evaluation of tooth morphology and root canals, assessment of pathology or lesions, orthodontic planning, temporomandibular joint analysis, and guidance for surgical or restorative procedures via 3D-printed guides.

Advantages include superior 3D visualization and improved diagnostic confidence in complex cases, with doses generally lower than conventional medical CT but higher than conventional intraoral radiographs. Limitations include susceptibility to metal artifacts, limited soft tissue contrast, higher cost, and a need for specialized training to interpret the images.

Safety considerations emphasize dose optimization, appropriate indication, and shielding when appropriate. Pediatric patients may require reduced fields of view and lower dose protocols.

Dental clinics and imaging centers commonly offer CBCT services, with data integrated into dental record systems and planning software. The technique is subject to regulatory guidelines and professional standards for radiographic imaging.
