Delta1232EX

Delta1232EX is a modular edge computing module designed for industrial automation and data acquisition. It is produced by DeltaTech Systems. The EX designation denotes extended input/output and memory capacity relative to the base Delta1232 family, aiming to provide more flexible integration in factory floor environments.

Hardware and form factor

The module centers on a 64-bit quad-core ARM processor operating up to about 1.8 GHz, with configurable DDR4 RAM in the 4 to 8 GB range and up to 128 GB of eMMC flash storage, with optional NVMe expansion. I/O options include two Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB 3.0 host and device connectors, CAN bus, and UART/SPI interfaces. Mezzanine connectors support digital and analog I/O and PCIe expansions. The enclosure is designed for industrial use, with wide operating temperature (-40 to 85 C) and ruggedized mechanical specs suitable for vibration and shock. Power input is typically 12–24 V DC, with protection against surges.

Software and development

Delta1232EX runs DeltaOS, a Linux-based real-time operating system, and supports standard Linux distributions through real-time kernel patches. It ships with an SDK for C/C++, Python, and supports containerized workloads via Docker and edge-oriented Kubernetes deployments. Security features include secure boot, hardware-accelerated cryptography, and TPM 2.0 compatibility.

Applications

The module is intended for real-time control, data logging, machine vision preprocessing, edge AI inference, and protocol gateway functions in manufacturing, energy, and transport sectors. Its modularity and sequencing of I/O and storage make it suitable for retrofit projects or new automation deployments requiring reliable local processing and low-latency communication.

Development and versions

Introduced in 2022, the EX variant followed in 2023 with expanded I/O and memory options. Subsequent revisions have focused on RAM scalability and expanded expansion capabilities within the Delta1232 family.
