Countermechanism
Countermechanism refers to a device, system, or arrangement that serves to counteract, offset, or balance the action of another mechanism. In mechanical engineering, a countermechanism often functions to neutralize unwanted forces or motions, improving stability, accuracy, or safety. For example, a counterbalance in a camera tripod offsets the weight of the camera body, permitting a lighter support structure.
