ComplianceReife is a framework used to assess and enhance the maturity of an organization's compliance program. The term blends the English word compliance with the German word Reife, meaning maturity, and is used in European governance and risk-management discussions to describe a structured approach to building effective compliance capabilities. It is not an official standard and has no single universal specification; organizations may adapt it to their regulatory context and risk profile.

Maturity is described in a progression of levels that reflect the degree to which compliance activities are standardized, measured, and optimized. A common five-level model includes: Initial or Ad hoc, where processes are informal and reactionary; Managed, where basics exist and are documented; Defined, where processes are standardized and repeatable; Quantitatively Managed, where performance is measured and decisions are data-driven; and Optimizing, where continuous improvement is embedded and proactive risk reduction is pursued.

Core components cover governance and accountability, risk assessment and policy management, controls implementation, training and awareness, monitoring and assurance, audit and remediation, and reporting to executives and boards. Effective ComplianceReife relies on clear ownership, documented policies, risk-based control frameworks, timely issue remediation, and evidence-based assurance.

Assessment methods combine self-assessments, independent reviews, and metric-driven scoring. Typical metrics include control effectiveness, remediation time, policy coverage, training completion, and incident trends. The framework is applied in sectors with strong regulatory requirements such as financial services, healthcare, data protection, anti-corruption, and third-party risk management, as a planning and improvement tool rather than a certification.
