Cognitiveinteraction is a multidisciplinary concept describing how cognitive processes interact with external systems, tasks, and environments during perception, decision making, memory use, problem solving, and learning. In practice, it focuses on how people and autonomous agents coordinate with interfaces, tools, and environments to complete goals, and how designs can support or impede cognitive performance. The term is often used in fields such as human-computer interaction, cognitive ergonomics, and interactive artificial intelligence, and can apply to both human–human interactions mediated by tools and human–agent interactions with intelligent systems.

The study emphasizes aligning system behavior with users' cognitive capabilities and limitations. It examines how information is presented, how tasks are modeled, and how feedback, control, and automation affect cognitive load, situational awareness, explainability, and error management. Methods include cognitive task analysis, cognitive modeling, usability testing, and studies of mental workload. The goal is to create interfaces and systems that reduce unnecessary effort, support fast and accurate decision making, and adapt to individual differences.

Applications span user interfaces, decision support systems, educational technologies, accessibility tools, conversational agents, adaptive tutoring, and robotics. Challenges include measuring cognitive load in real time, constructing accurate models of diverse users, designing for evolving contexts, and balancing automation with user autonomy. As technology evolves, cognitiveinteraction seeks to facilitate intuitive, efficient, and safe interactions across domains.
