Chenillelanka
Chenillelanka is a community situated in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka, near the coastal district of Galle. The name derives from the traditional textile process of creating chenille yarn, a technique introduced by local artisans during the early 20th century. The village’s economy has long been centered on textile weaving, and it remains one of the few areas in the island that maintains a sizeable handloom sector. Production in Chenillelanka focuses mainly on chenille-based fabrics for both domestic use and export, and the local craftsmen are known for incorporating traditional hand‑embroidery motifs that reflect the island’s cultural heritage.
