Chactidae

Chactidae is a family of scorpions found in the Americas. This family is one of the most diverse scorpion families, with many species exhibiting a wide range of sizes, colors, and venom potencies. They are commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, inhabiting a variety of environments from arid deserts to humid rainforests.

Generally, they possess a relatively robust metasoma (tail) and a broad carapace. The pedipalps, which are the pincers, are typically large and powerful. Chactidae scorpions are nocturnal predators, actively hunting insects and other small invertebrates during the night. They are solitary creatures, typically avoiding contact with other scorpions. Their reproductive behavior involves a courtship dance followed by the deposition of a spermatophore, which the female then retrieves. The young are carried on the mother's back until their first molt.
