CADPID

CADPID is an acronym used to describe a framework that combines computer-aided design (CAD) with process data and diagnostic capabilities to support design verification, lifecycle management, and operational insight. Rather than a single standard, CADPID refers to a family of approaches in which geometric models are linked with real-time or historical sensor data, manufacturing process information, and maintenance diagnostics. The objective is to enable designers, engineers, and operators to simulate, validate, and monitor products from concept through service.

In practice, CADPID-like systems provide modules for parametric geometry, simulation and analysis, data interoperability with product data management or PLM systems, digital twin integration, and rule-based or AI-assisted verification. They emphasize traceability between design decisions and downstream performance, including design-for-maintainability and predictive maintenance considerations. The concept dates from early 2010s design automation literature and has evolved with advances in digital twin technology, IoT, and cloud-based PLM. Implementations vary, with some projects focusing on aerospace or automotive parts design with built-in diagnostics, and others on civil infrastructure modeling and construction.

Standards and interoperability concerns are central, with interest in STEP (ISO 10303) for geometry and part data, and in data schemas that enable cross-system data exchange. The term CADPID is often found in academic papers and vendor roadmaps rather than as a universally adopted product category.
