Biharnear

Biharnear is a town situated in the northern part of the Indian state of Bihar, lying close to the border with the state of West Bengal. The town falls within Purnea district and is part of the Purnia subdivision. It lies at an altitude of approximately 70 metres above sea level and is surrounded by a mix of fertile alluvial plains and rolling hills that are characteristic of the region. The nearest major city is Purnea, located about 25 kilometres to the south, while the state capital Patna is roughly 350 kilometres away.

The population of Biharnear was recorded as 12,500 in the 2011 census. The demographic profile is dominated by a mix of Hindu and Muslim communities, with Hindi and Urdu serving as the principal languages. The town is known for its agricultural activities, especially the cultivation of rice, maize, and pulses. Small-scale textile and garment industries also contribute to the local economy. Educational institutions include a government secondary school and a college offering courses in arts and science.

Biharnear is connected by a network of state highways that link it to neighboring towns and to the Kosi River crossing. A railway stop on the Purnia–Jamalpur line provides passenger services to larger urban centres. The town observes the cultural festivals typical of Bihar, including Chhath Puja and Holi, which are celebrated with traditional rituals and community gatherings.
