Antriebsaufteilung refers to the distribution of power to the wheels of a vehicle. In a typical two-wheel-drive vehicle, power is sent to either the front wheels (front-wheel drive, FWD) or the rear wheels (rear-wheel drive, RWD). Four-wheel drive (4WD), often associated with trucks and SUVs, is similar to AWD but typically has a more robust design intended for off-road use. 4WD systems often feature selectable modes, allowing the driver to choose between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive operation, and sometimes locking differentials for maximum traction in extreme situations.
