Alluomos

Alluomos is a fictional genus of arboreal primates native to the Verdant Archipelago, a chain of tropical islands in a speculative world. The genus contains two described species, Alluomos viridis and Alluomos ruber, distinguished primarily by fur coloration and subtle cranial features. The concept is used in worldbuilding and role‑playing settings to illustrate canopy-dwelling primates.

Adults of Alluomos are medium-sized, with a body length of about 45–60 cm and tails around 50–65 cm, weighing roughly 0.6–1.2 kg. They have slender limbs, highly grasping hands, and a prehensile tail. The pelage ranges from olive-green to copper-brown, and a faint chest patch is reported in some individuals, sometimes described as luminescent in low light, used in social signaling within groups.

Alluomos is endemic to montane cloud forests on the archipelago’s larger islands, typically at elevations of 900–1800 meters. They favor mature forest with dense vines and emergent canopy platforms, and rely on a mix of primary and secondary forests. Habitat fragmentation and deforestation are cited as primary threats in in-universe conservation assessments.

Ecology and behavior describe Alluomos as nocturnal and highly arboreal, foraging mainly in the canopy for fruit, seeds, nectar, and insects. Social groups are typically multi-male and multi-female, numbering 6–12 individuals, and they communicate with a repertoire of vocalizations, tail movements, and chest-patch signaling.

Reproduction is seasonal, with typically one offspring per year. Gestation is several months, and juveniles remain with the group for an extended period to learn foraging and social skills.
