Fertilization is often necessary to replenish soil nutrients and support healthy growth and fruit yield. Pest and disease control are also integral, with common issues including olive fruit fly, olive knot, and peacock spot.

Harvesting methods can range from manual picking to mechanical shakers, with the timing of harvest significantly impacting the quality and type of olive oil produced. Early harvests yield greener, more pungent oils, while later harvests result in milder, more golden oils. Olive agriculture is a significant economic activity in many Mediterranean countries and has expanded to other regions worldwide with suitable climates.
