Agentlesslähestymistavat, often translated as agentless approaches, refer to methods of managing, monitoring, or securing systems and devices without the need to install and maintain dedicated software agents on each endpoint. This contrasts with agent-based solutions, which require the deployment of specific software on every target machine.

The primary advantage of agentless approaches lies in their reduced operational overhead. There's no need to provision, update, patch, or troubleshoot agents across a potentially vast number of devices. This can significantly simplify deployment and ongoing management, especially in large or dynamic environments. It also avoids potential conflicts with existing software or operating system configurations that might arise from agent installation.

Agentless methods typically rely on existing network protocols, management interfaces, or standard operating system functionalities to gather information or perform actions. Examples include using protocols like SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for network device monitoring, WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) for Windows systems, SSH (Secure Shell) for Linux/Unix systems, or APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) exposed by various services and devices.

While offering benefits in terms of simplicity and scalability, agentless approaches can sometimes have limitations. The depth of information that can be gathered or the granularity of control that can be exercised might be less than what's achievable with a dedicated agent. Performance can also be a consideration, as frequent polling of devices over the network can consume bandwidth. The availability and configuration of the necessary network protocols and management interfaces on the target systems are crucial for the success of agentless solutions.
