Életforma is a Hungarian sociological term that refers to the patterned and relatively stable way of life of a person or group. It denotes the organized ensemble of practices, routines, social relations, and institutions that constitute daily life, including work and family roles, housing, consumption, leisure, mobility, technology use, and religious or cultural practices. The concept emphasizes structure and continuity in living arrangements rather than only individual preferences.

The word is formed from élet (life) and forma (form) and is a Hungarian loan from the German Lebensform, used in sociology and cultural analysis to discuss how certain ways of living are produced and reproduced by social structures. In Hungarian scholarship it is often contrasted with lifestyle terms that foreground individual choice, and is applied to analyze differences among groups (by class, region, gender, generation) and changes over time, especially during modernization and post-socialist transitions.

Applications include studies of family life and gender roles, work organization, housing and urbanization, consumer culture, and technology use. The concept helps to describe how institutions—family, school, state, market—shape everyday routines and how these routines in turn reinforce social identities and hierarchies. It is used across sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies.

Critics point out that the concept can be vague or deterministic if not clearly defined and operationalized, but supporters argue that életforma captures the integrated, context-dependent nature of lived experience beyond isolated behaviors.
