Wegenlabels refers to labels that convey weight-related information on goods and their packaging. In retail, manufacturing and logistics these labels support accurate pricing, inventory control and regulatory compliance. They are often produced at the point of weighing by scales or dedicated label printers and affixed to the product, a package, or a pallet.

Typical content of a wegenlabel includes net weight, gross weight and tare weight, along with the unit of measurement (for example kilograms or grams). Other common fields are a date or time of weighing, batch or lot number, product description and supplier, as well as machine-readable codes such as barcodes, Data Matrix or QR codes. Some labels may also show dimensions, temperature information or expiration dates, depending on the industry and regulatory requirements.

Formats and technologies vary. Labels can be pre-printed or produced on demand at the packing line. They may use durable materials and adhesives suitable for handling and transport. Electronic integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and warehouse management systems (WMS) enables automatic inclusion of weight data in records, invoicing and traceability. Weighing labels are commonly produced with thermal transfer or direct thermal printers and designed to survive typical handling and shelving.

Standards and regulations differ by jurisdiction but generally require that net weight and the corresponding unit are clearly indicated on packaged goods. In many regions, weighing instruments used for commerce fall under legal metrology rules and must be calibrated and maintained to ensure accuracy. Compliance considerations also cover data integrity, labeling accuracy and compatibility with barcode or other machine-readable formats.
