Wakesurfing is a water sport in which a rider, referred to as a wakesurfer, trails behind a wakeboat, riding the boat's intentionally created wake without the use of a tow rope. The wakeboat is designed to produce a large, surfable wave. The wakesurfer starts by holding onto a rope and dropping it once they have found their balance and are riding the wave. Unlike wakeboarding or waterskiing, wakesurfing does not require a tow rope for the duration of the ride, allowing for a greater sense of freedom.
