Videoplay is a term used to describe the process and technology involved in displaying digital video content on computer and mobile devices. It encompasses the end-to-end flow from source media to the final rendered image, including decoding, rendering, and playback control.

In typical implementations, videoplay begins with encoding a video into a compressed bitstream using codecs such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, or AV1, and packaging it into containers like MP4, MKV, or WebM. The video is transported over networks via streaming protocols such as HLS or DASH, or delivered as progressive download.

On the client side, a video player handles decoding, buffering, synchronization with audio, color management, and rendering to the display. Modern players often leverage hardware acceleration through GPUs or dedicated video decoding blocks to improve efficiency and reduce power consumption.

Applications include web browsers with built-in video playback, standalone media players, and mobile apps. Videoplay supports adaptive streaming, which adjusts quality based on network conditions. DRM and encryption may be used to protect content, which introduces additional considerations for licensing and secure decoding.

Common challenges include startup latency, buffering behavior, compatibility across devices and browsers, copyright protection, and accessibility features such as captions and transcripts.
