Verehaigus, known in English as hemorrhagic disease, is a condition characterized by excessive bleeding due to the impairment of blood clotting mechanisms. It can be caused by various factors, including genetic deficiencies, acquired conditions, or external influences such as medication or trauma.

One of the most common inherited forms is hemophilia, primarily affecting males and resulting from deficiencies in clotting factors VIII or IX. Users with hemophilia often experience spontaneous bleeding episodes or prolonged bleeding after injuries, surgeries, or dental procedures. Other hereditary coagulation disorders include von Willebrand disease, which involves a deficiency or dysfunction of the von Willebrand factor that plays a key role in platelet adhesion.

Acquired hemorrhagic conditions can result from liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, anticoagulant medication use, or certain illnesses that affect blood clotting. Symptoms of verehaigus typically include extensive bruising, bleeding of the gums or nose, hemarthrosis (bleeding into joints), and in severe cases, internal bleeding that can be life-threatening.

Diagnosis involves blood tests that assess clotting factor levels, platelet function, and bleeding time. Treatment varies depending on the underlying cause, ranging from factor replacement therapies in hemophilia to vitamin K administration in deficiency states. In cases of severe bleeding, supportive measures such as transfusions and medications to promote clotting are employed.

Prevention of hemorrhagic diseases involves managing risk factors, genetic counseling for inherited conditions, and appropriate use of medications. Advances in medical treatments have significantly improved the prognosis for individuals with verehaigus, although management remains a lifelong process for many affected individuals.
