Vaihelogiikkaa, known in English as phase logic, is a concept used in certain electronic circuits, particularly in phase-locked loops (PLLs). It describes the behavior and operation of a circuit that synchronizes its output signal's phase to that of an input signal. The core idea is to compare the phase difference between two signals and generate an error signal that drives a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) to minimize this difference.

In a typical phase-locked loop, the phase detector is a key component of the phase logic. It receives both the reference input signal and the feedback signal from the VCO. The output of the phase detector is a voltage that is proportional to the phase difference between these two signals. This voltage is then typically filtered by a loop filter, which smooths out rapid fluctuations and determines the dynamic characteristics of the PLL.

The filtered error voltage then controls the frequency of the VCO. If the VCO's output frequency is too low, the phase difference increases, and the phase detector generates a higher voltage, causing the VCO to speed up. Conversely, if the VCO's frequency is too high, the phase difference decreases, resulting in a lower control voltage and slowing down the VCO. This feedback mechanism continuously adjusts the VCO's frequency until its output signal is phase-locked with the input signal. The concept of vaihelogiikkaa is fundamental to understanding how PLLs achieve precise frequency and phase synchronization in various applications, including telecommunications, clock generation, and signal recovery.
