utlogget

Utlogget is a Norwegian term meaning the state of having ended a user session, i.e., being logged out. It is formed from the verb logge ut (to log out) with the past participle ending -et.

In computing, utlogget describes a user who is no longer authenticated and cannot access protected resources without re-authenticating. It contrasts with innlogget, meaning logged in. The term is common in software documentation, user interfaces, and discussions of authentication flows and session management.

In digital interfaces, you may encounter phrases such as Du er utlogget or Du har blitt utlogget after manual or automatic logout. Automatic logout can occur after inactivity, changes in policy, or security requirements. Some systems may warn users before ending a session to prevent unexpected loss of work.

Technically, logging out involves invalidating server-side sessions or tokens, clearing authentication cookies, and ensuring that subsequent requests are treated as unauthenticated. In single sign-on environments, logout may propagate to identity providers to revoke tokens and terminate access across linked services. Proper logout helps protect account security and user privacy, especially on shared devices or in public networks.
