The goal is to balance ride comfort, handling, load capacity, and durability.

A typical utfjädring system combines springs, which store and release energy, with dampers, which dissipate energy and control motion. Springs can be coil, leaf, or torsion types, while dampers are usually hydraulic or pneumatic shock absorbers.
