Trykforme is a Danish term for a mold or die used to shape materials under pressure in manufacturing. The word covers tools employed in forming plastics and metals, including injection molds, compression dies, and other pressure-based forming systems. The primary purpose of a trykforme is to reproduce a part’s geometry with high accuracy and repeatability through a controlled cavity, core, and set of moving components.

A typical trykforme consists of two or more halves that close around the material. It includes a cavity and a core, a gating system to channel material into the cavity, and a runner system to direct the flow. Additional elements such as ejector pins or plates push the finished part out of the mold, while cooling channels regulate temperature to control cycle times and part quality. Surfaces are finished or textured to achieve cosmetic or functional requirements. Materials for molds range from tool steels and stainless steels for durability to aluminum for lighter, lower-volume applications. Surface treatments and coatings may be applied to reduce wear and improve release.

Design and manufacturing considerations focus on tolerances, surface finish, cooling efficiency, venting to prevent air traps, and alignment with the clamping system of the forming equipment. The choice of material, gate location, and ejection strategy influence part quality and production efficiency.
