Traneksamihappo, known in English as tranexamic acid, is a synthetic antifibrinolytic medication derived from the amino acid lysine. It helps reduce or prevent excessive bleeding by inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, which slows the breakdown of fibrin clots and promotes clot stability.

Chemically, traneksamihappo is a derivative of lysine and is classified as a lysine analog. It is available in several forms, including oral tablets, injectable solutions, and topical preparations. The drug is typically absorbed after oral administration and is processed and eliminated mainly by the kidneys, with dose adjustments sometimes required in impaired renal function.

Medical uses of traneksamihappoa include management of heavy or prolonged bleeding associated with heavy menstrual bleeding, dental extractions in patients with bleeding risk, and reduction of perioperative blood loss in various surgical procedures. It may also be used in certain obstetric settings to reduce bleeding after childbirth and, in some cases, for hereditary or acquired bleeding disorders under medical supervision.
