Trägolv, the Swedish term for wooden flooring, refers to a floor surface made from timber or a timber veneer mounted on a substrate. It is valued for its natural warmth, aesthetic variety, and long service life when properly installed and maintained.

Two main categories exist: solid hardwood floors and engineered wood floors. Solid floors consist of a single piece of wood and are typically 18–25 mm thick. They are usually installed by nail-down or staple methods to a wood subfloor and can be refinished several times. Engineered floors have a top hardwood veneer bonded to multiple base layers, providing greater dimensional stability and allowing installation on concrete or over underfloor heating. They can be laid as planks or in parquet patterns, often using floating, glue-down, or click-lock systems.

Finishes vary widely. Site-finished floors use oils, waxes, or water- or solvent-based varnishes applied after installation, whereas prefinished boards arrive with factory-applied coatings. Common species include oak, beech, maple, and walnut, with plank widths and surface textures ranging from smooth to wire-brushed or brushed.

Maintenance emphasizes regular cleaning to remove grit, careful damp-mopping, and prompt spill cleanup. Excess moisture can cause swelling or warping, so mats at entrances and controlled indoor humidity help protect the floor. Durability depends on species, thickness, and maintenance; solid hardwood may last 50–100 years with refinishing, while engineered floors typically offer 20–40 years of wear, depending on veneer thickness. Environmental considerations include sustainable sourcing and certification schemes such as FSC, with options for reclaimed or locally produced timber.
