Topografist is a professional who studies and documents the topography of a landscape. While often used interchangeably with topographer, the term can emphasize the production of topographic maps and models. A topografist records features such as elevations, contours, bodies of water, vegetation, and built infrastructure to represent the terrain.

Work and methods: Field surveying combines leveling, triangulation, and geodetic networks with modern tools. Today, topografists use GNSS/GPS, total stations, and theodolites, as well as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and drone imagery to collect data. The information is processed in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and CAD software to generate contour maps, digital elevation models, and 3D terrain representations.
