Tilam is the Malay term for a mattress or sleeping mat, used in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and other Malay-speaking communities. It refers to a surface placed on bed frames or directly on the floor upon which a person sleeps. In modern contexts tilam typically refers to a manufactured mattress comprising layers and a core, supported by a bed frame or foundation.

Modern tilams come in several core types, including polyurethane foam, memory foam, latex, and innerspring or hybrid constructions. Traditional tilams may be layered with cotton or other natural fibers and may be complemented by a woven or fabric cover. In regional usage, tilam designs may be described as tilam busa (foam), tilam lateks (latex), or tilam spring, though terminology varies by retailer.

Care and maintenance:

To extend life, tilams should be rotated or flipped (where applicable) to distribute wear, kept dry and ventilated, and protected with a water-resistant or washable cover. Regular cleaning and avoiding excessive moisture help prevent mold and odors. Replacement generally occurs every 7–10 years, depending on quality and use.

While "kasur" is a more common Indonesian term for mattress, tilam persists in Malay-speaking areas as the standard word for sleeping surfaces. The term reflects regional vocabulary rather than a single standardized product.
