Testikelkræft, also known as testicular cancer, is a type of cancer that develops in the testicles, the two oval-shaped glands in the male reproductive system that produce sperm and testosterone. It is the most common cancer among young men aged 15 to 35. While relatively rare overall, early detection and treatment lead to high cure rates.

The exact cause of testikelkræft is not fully understood, but certain risk factors have been identified. These include having an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism), a personal or family history of testicular cancer, and certain genetic conditions like Klinefelter syndrome. Previous testicular trauma or inflammation are not considered causes.

Symptoms can include a lump or swelling in either testicle, a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, a dull ache in the abdomen or groin, and a sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum. In some cases, breast tissue may enlarge or become tender due to hormonal changes caused by the tumor. Regular self-examination of the testicles can aid in early detection.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, ultrasound of the scrotum, and blood tests to check for tumor markers. Treatment depends on the type and stage of the cancer and may include surgery to remove the affected testicle (orchiectomy), radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. Due to the effectiveness of modern treatments, the prognosis for testikelkræft is generally very good, with survival rates exceeding 95% for localized disease.
