Tasohyppyeet, scientifically known as Acrobates pygmaeus, are a small species of possum native to the forests of eastern Australia. They are the smallest known marsupial and are often referred to as pygmy possums or flying squirrels due to their gliding ability.

Tasohyppyeet have a distinctive appearance with a slender body, a long, bushy tail, and large eyes adapted for nocturnal activity. Their fur is typically greyish-brown on their back and lighter on their underside. A remarkable feature is the patagium, a membrane of skin stretching from their wrists to their ankles, which allows them to glide between trees.

These arboreal marsupials inhabit eucalyptus forests and woodlands. They are primarily nocturnal, spending their days sleeping in tree hollows or nests made of leaves and bark. At night, they emerge to forage for food, which consists mainly of nectar, pollen, insects, and small invertebrates. Their gliding ability is crucial for efficient foraging and escaping predators.

Tasohyppyeet are solitary animals, coming together primarily for breeding. The female typically gives birth to a small litter of underdeveloped young, which then complete their development in her pouch. Their conservation status is generally considered of least concern, although habitat loss and fragmentation can pose threats in certain areas. Their small size and elusive nature make them challenging to study, and much of their behavior remains observed through specialized research methods.
