Sublimaatiovärejä, known in English as sublimation inks, are special inks used in a printing process called dye-sublimation. This process transfers ink onto materials such as polyester fabrics, plastics, or metal coatings. The key characteristic of sublimation inks is their ability to convert from a solid state directly to a gas state when heated, bypassing the liquid phase. This process is called sublimation.

During sublimation printing, the ink is applied to a transfer paper. The paper is then placed in contact with the material to be printed. Heat and pressure are applied, causing the sublimation ink to turn into a gas. This ink gas then penetrates the fibers of the material or bonds with the coating, becoming a permanent part of the substrate. Once the heat is removed, the ink gas cools and returns to a solid state, creating a vibrant and durable image.

This method is popular for printing on textiles, such as sportswear and flags, as well as promotional items like mugs, phone cases, and photo panels. The resulting prints are known for their high detail, full-color reproduction, and resistance to fading, scratching, and washing. Sublimation inks require specialized printers and polyester-based materials for successful transfer. The permanence of the image is a significant advantage, as the ink becomes integrated into the material rather than sitting on the surface.
