It allows for the creation of intricate reliefs, moldings, cornices, and even sculptural figures. The material's versatility enables it to mimic the appearance of carved stone or marble.

Modern stukkó can also incorporate Portland cement and sand, making it suitable for exterior applications as well as interior decoration. It is often applied over lath or masonry substrates. The finishing process can involve smoothing, texturing, or painting to achieve the desired aesthetic. Techniques such as sgraffito, where layers of colored stukkó are scratched to reveal underlying colors, are also possible.
