Steelwere is a term used in speculative fiction to describe a hybrid entity that fuses lupine or lycanthropic traits with metallic or mechanical augmentation. The name combines steel and were (from werewolf), reflecting its dual nature as both creature and construct. In different works, steelwere may denote either a living were-creature whose physiology is reinforced by steel-like tissues and armor or a fully autonomous mechanical being designed with lupine aesthetics.

Origins and variants: The concept emerged in modern fantasy and science fiction, often as an exploration of industrialization and the tension between organic life and machines. Some depictions present steelwere as a cursed or transformed human whose bones and hide are augmented with steel plates, while others show a programmable or sentient automaton shaped as a wolf or wolf-like silhouette.

Biology and physiology: Physical form ranges from organically augmented beings with plating to entirely mechanical bodies with a lupine silhouette.
