Steelribbed, often written steel-ribbed, is an adjective used to describe objects that incorporate a series of raised steel ridges or ribs. These ribs provide reinforcement, structural stiffness, or improved grip, depending on the design intent. The term does not refer to a single standard product, but to a design principle used across engineering disciplines.

In construction and civil engineering, steel ribbing commonly appears on reinforcing bars (rebar) used to reinforce concrete, where ribs on the steel bar improve mechanical interlock with the surrounding concrete. Ribbed steel sheets or profiles are also used as roofing or wall cladding to increase stiffness, weather resistance, and load distribution. In pipelines and ducts, ribbing can enhance bending resistance and maintain circular cross-sections under pressure. In mechanical engineering and vehicle design, ribbed steel components may provide buckling resistance while reducing material thinning.

Manufacturers implement ribbed steel through rolling, pressing, or casting to form the desired ridge pattern. The use of steel ribs is governed by industry standards and regional specifications that address geometry, material grade, corrosion protection, and fabrication tolerances. Because the term spans multiple industries, proper identification of product data sheets or catalogs is often needed to confirm exact rib profile and performance.

Advantages of ribbed steel components include improved bonding with concrete, higher stiffness and buckling resistance, and better grip or alignment features. Limitations include added weight, higher production costs, and potential corrosion or fatigue concerns if coatings are damaged or if design loads are misapplied.
