Stationssensorer are sensors deployed at stations—such as railway stations, bus depots, or utility hubs—to monitor infrastructure, environmental conditions, and passenger activity. They provide real-time data that supports safety, reliability, and operational efficiency by detecting anomalies, measuring conditions, and triggering alarms or adjustments in nearby systems.

Common types include occupancy or presence sensors to estimate crowd levels on platforms, track or equipment sensors to monitor heat, vibration, or moisture in critical assets, temperature and humidity sensors in equipment rooms, and air quality or gas detectors for confined spaces. In larger transit or utility networks, camera- or image-based sensors, people-counting devices, and power quality meters can also be integrated as part of a stationssensorer suite.

Data from stationssensorer is collected by central management platforms, SCADA systems, or IoT gateways and transmitted over wired or wireless networks. Interoperable systems may use protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, or Modbus, enabling integration with maintenance dashboards, alarm systems, and energy management.

Benefits include improved safety through early alerts, reduced downtime via predictive maintenance, better crowd management, energy efficiency, and more informed capital planning. Challenges include ensuring sensor reliability and accuracy, protecting privacy and cybersecurity, integration with legacy systems, and managing installation and ongoing maintenance.
