A slalom is a type of race or competition involving navigating a course marked by obstacles. The most common association with the term is in skiing, where skiers race down a slope, weaving in and out of poles or gates. The gates are typically placed in a zig-zag pattern, requiring quick turns and precise control. Different disciplines of skiing, such as alpine skiing, have various slalom events, including slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS), which differ in gate spacing and course length.
Beyond skiing, the term "slalom" is also used in other sports. In waterskiing, a slalom course consists
