Septumsutningslutning is a surgical technique for closing defects of the nasal septum by suturing mucosal flaps and supporting tissue. The term is Swedish and combines septum with sutning (suturing) and slutning (closing). It is used to repair nasal septal perforations or defects that arise from trauma, chronic inflammation, previous nasal surgery, or congenital malformations, and may be employed after reconstructive septal procedures.

The procedure typically involves removal of nonviable tissue, creation and mobilization of mucosal flaps from both sides of the septum, and primary suturing to approximate the edges. Absorbable sutures are commonly used, and a temporary nasal stent or splint may be placed to protect the repair during healing. The surgery can be performed through an endonasal approach and may be combined with cartilage or mucosal grafts to reinforce the closure.

Outcomes vary with defect size and location; smaller perforations generally have higher closure rates. Benefits include restoration of nasal integrity and improved airflow, while risks comprise infection, bleeding, flap necrosis, restenosis or re-perforation, and the potential need for revision surgery. Postoperative care typically involves nasal decongestants, saline irrigations, avoidance of trauma, and management of any stents.
