Sensuality refers to the capacity to perceive, experience, and respond to sensory stimuli with pleasure, affect, and interest. It encompasses a broad range of perceptions and practices that engage the senses—touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound—as well as the emotional and cognitive responses they elicit. The term is often used to describe experiences of intimacy and physical affection, but it also includes appreciation of beauty, comfort, and enjoyment in non-sexual contexts such as food, music, art, and the built environment.

In contrast to sexuality, which concerns sexual attraction, behavior, and identity, sensuality is not inherently tied to sexual acts, though the two can overlap. People may cultivate sensual awareness through practices like mindful touch, massage, savoring appetites, or attentive listening. Cultures shape how sensuality is expressed and regulated, including norms around modesty, erotic expression, dress, and rituals.

Expression and practice vary across individuals and communities. Sensuality can appear in intimate relationships through affection and closeness, in creative and culinary experiences, and in design and aesthetics that engage the body.

Health and education approaches emphasize consent, boundaries, and respect. Mindful engagement with the senses can contribute to well-being, body appreciation, and stress reduction when conducted with awareness and consent.
