sancakbeyi
Sancakbeyi is the Ottoman-era title for the governor of a sanjak, an administrative district within a vilayet (or, earlier, an eyalet). The sancakbeyi headed local civil administration, commanded the troops stationed in the sanjak, and served as the chief intermediary between the district and central government. He held both administrative and military authority and acted as the principal representative of the sultan or the grand vizier at the district level.
