Ryggpanel is a term used to describe a back panel—the rear surface of a product, piece of furniture, or architectural element. It can be purely decorative or serve structural and protective functions, concealing internal components and providing a mounting plane for hardware.

Common materials include plywood, MDF, particleboard, solid wood, metal, and plastic. In furniture, backing panels are often thin and may be veneered or painted; in equipment housings they are thicker and may feature cutouts for cables, ventilation, or connectors. Manufacturing methods range from simple sawing and drilling to routing, laminating, or stamping, depending on material and function.

Ryggpanel appears in many contexts: cabinets, bookcases, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, and entertainment centers; automotive and aircraft interiors; electronic enclosures and server racks; and architectural installations like partition walls and stage backdrops.

Design considerations include strength and rigidity, appropriate thickness, mounting points, access for maintenance, moisture resistance, and ventilation or acoustic behavior. Finishes and colors are important when the panel is visible.
