Risk dashboards are visualization tools used in risk management to present a consolidated view of an organization’s risk posture. They aggregate data from multiple sources to monitor exposure, performance against risk appetite, and the effectiveness of controls. Dashboards typically display key risk indicators (KRIs), risk-related KPIs, top risks, trend charts, heat maps, control statuses, remediation plans, and ownership details. They enable executives, risk managers, and board members to understand risk at a glance and to drill down into underlying data.

Common components include a risk heat map, a risk register with severity and likelihood, exposure scores, trend lines, incident logs, control effectiveness gauges, and alerts when thresholds are breached. Design emphasizes clarity, consistency in risk taxonomy, and timely data. Dashboards can be real-time or near-real-time, with refresh intervals aligned to decision cadence, and often integrate with GRC systems, ERP, security information and event management, audit findings, and incident-management tools.

Usage and governance: they are used for risk reporting, governance meetings, and regulatory compliance. They support scenario analysis and what-if planning, enabling management to assess potential impacts under different conditions. Limitations include dependency on data quality, potential lag, overreliance on automated indicators, and misinterpretation from poorly chosen metrics.

The concept supports enterprise risk management by providing a centralized, visual means to monitor risk exposure, communicate risk posture across the organization, and track remediation over time.
