The Republic of Slovenia is a sovereign state located in southern Central Europe, with a short Adriatic coastline. It borders Austria to the north, Italy to the west, Hungary to the northeast, and Croatia to the south and southeast, and covers about 20,273 square kilometers. The capital and largest city is Ljubljana. The official language is Slovene, with Italian and Hungarian recognized as official minority languages in border areas. The country has a population of about 2.1 million.

Slovenia declared independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in June 1991, triggering the Ten-Day War. It joined the United Nations and other international organizations shortly thereafter. Slovenia became a member of the European Union in 2004, adopted the euro as its currency in 2007, and joined the Schengen Area the same year. It is a member of NATO (since 2004) and the OECD (since 2010).

Government is a parliamentary republic. The president is the head of state with largely ceremonial duties; the prime minister is the head of government. The legislature is the 90-seat National Assembly (Državni zbor), elected by proportional representation; the National Council (Državni svet) serves as a consultative body. The judiciary is independent.

Economy: Slovenia has a developed, diversified, high-income economy, with services forming the largest share of GDP. Key sectors include manufacturing (notably automotive components and pharmaceuticals), information technology, logistics, and tourism. The country is integrated with the European single market and is a net exporter of goods.

Geography and culture: The Alpine and Mediterranean influences give Slovenia a varied landscape, including the Julian Alps, Karst features, lakes such as Bled, and protected areas like Triglav National Park. The country has a rich cultural heritage, with many festivals, museums, and UNESCO sites.
