Remontering is the act of removing a component from its mounting and reattaching it, either in its original position or in a different one. The term is used in several fields, including mechanical engineering, automotive work, electronics, and building maintenance. It is related to but distinguishes itself from full disassembly or refurbishment by focusing on the reattachment of existing components rather than complete replacement or overhaul.

In practice, remontering covers tasks such as repositioning a sensor or bracket, rejoining a component after inspection or repair, and relocating equipment for layout changes or optimization. The term is more common in Dutch-speaking and certain European engineering contexts, and in English-language documentation the verb form “re-mounting” is often used.

Typical procedures follow standard safety and quality practices. Planning and documentation are important: identify the exact mounting point, note orientation, and verify torque specifications and fastener type. Before remounting, power and systems are isolated if applicable, and the component is inspected for wear, damage, or contamination. During reattachment, proper sequence, alignment, anti-corrosion measures, and correct fastener torque are applied. After remounting, the assembly is tested for correct operation and any environmental seals or clearances are rechecked.

Risks include misalignment, damaged threads or seals, and compromised safety or warranty conditions. Remontering is usually a targeted operation within a broader maintenance or modification workflow, rather than a standalone repair.
