Regluverks is a term used in systems biology and network science to refer to regulatory networks that govern the expression and activity of biological components. In this sense, a regluverk consists of nodes such as genes, transcription factors, and signaling molecules connected by regulatory interactions (activation, repression, modulation) that determine cellular states and responses. The term is not universally standardized and often overlaps with the more common “gene regulatory network” (GRN).

Regluverks exhibit motifs such as feedback and feed-forward loops and may be organized into modules reflecting functional groups. Interactions can be activating or inhibitory, and the overall dynamics produce discrete or continuous states, enabling processes like development, adaptation, and stress responses. Network topology, along with kinetic parameters, influences stability, robustness, and switch-like behavior.

Researchers study regluverks using computational models, including boolean networks, ordinary differential equations, and Bayesian networks. Data sources include gene expression profiling, chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing, and perturbation experiments. Inference methods attempt to reconstruct network structure and parameters from data, though challenges include noise, incompleteness, and context dependence.

Applications span basic biology, medicine, and synthetic biology, such as identifying regulatory hubs, understanding disease states caused by misregulation, and guiding the design of programmable regulatory circuits.
