Rasvhepatiit, also known as fatty hepatitis or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is a condition characterized by the accumulation of excess fat in liver cells not caused by alcohol consumption. It is a common liver disorder globally, often associated with metabolic syndrome, obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

The condition can range from simple steatosis (fat accumulation without inflammation) to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), where fat buildup is accompanied by liver inflammation and cellular damage. NASH can progress to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and ultimately liver failure if untreated. Many individuals with rasvhepatiit are asymptomatic, but some may experience fatigue, discomfort in the upper right abdomen, or hepatomegaly.

Diagnosis typically involves blood tests to assess liver enzymes, imaging studies such as ultrasound or MRI to detect fatty infiltration, and sometimes liver biopsy to confirm inflammation and degree of fibrosis. Risk factors include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, high sugar and fat intake, and certain genetic predispositions.

Management focuses on lifestyle modifications, including weight loss, healthy diet, regular physical activity, and control of associated conditions like diabetes and hyperlipidemia. Pharmacological treatments are under research, but no specific medication is currently approved solely for rasvhepatiit. Early detection and intervention are crucial to prevent disease progression.

While rasvhepatiit remains largely asymptomatic in early stages, its increasing prevalence highlights the importance of public health measures targeting metabolic health. Ongoing research aims to better understand the pathogenesis and develop effective therapies for this increasingly common liver disorder.
