Přitístupnosti, often translated as accessibility, is the design and organization of products, services, and environments to be usable by as many people as possible, including individuals with disabilities, older people, and those with temporary impairments. It covers physical spaces, digital content, and information and communication technologies, as well as public services and communications.

Scope includes the built environment (ramps, elevators, signage), transportation systems, and digital platforms (websites, apps, software), along with printed materials and multimedia. The goal is to remove barriers that limit participation in everyday activities, work, education, and civic life.

Principles and methods: Accessibility rests on inclusive design and follows the POUR framework—perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. Designs should anticipate diverse needs and be usable with or without assistive technologies. The aim is not only to accommodate exceptions but to improve usability for everyone.

Standards and guidelines: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) provide guidance for digital content. In the European Union, EN 301 549 governs ICT accessibility, while ISO 21542 addresses accessibility in the built environment. National and regional laws, such as the European Accessibility Act, establish procurement and compliance requirements. Organisations often publish accessibility statements and maintain ongoing conformance with these standards.

Implementation and evaluation: Common techniques include text alternatives (alt text), captions, keyboard navigation, logical focus order, color-contrast options, semantic markup, and responsive design for digital products; and for physical spaces, ramps, lifts, tactile indicators, and accessible signage. Evaluation combines automated checks with user testing involving people with diverse abilities.

Impact and challenges: Accessible design broadens participation, improves safety, and can expand audiences and markets. Challenges include keeping up with updates, balancing aesthetics with accessibility, and the costs of retrofitting or retrofitting.
