Plastfolier are available in forms ranging from clear, transparent films to opaque or printed varieties intended for branding and light protection.

Most plastfolier are produced by extrusion, either film blowing or casting, followed by processes such as orientation to improve strength. Common types include low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films for wrapping, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for sturdier bags, and oriented films like BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) for high clarity. Laminated structures combine different materials to achieve specific barrier and mechanical properties. Film thickness is measured in micrometers and typically ranges from about 10 to 100 microns, depending on the intended use.

Applications span consumer packaging for food and nonfood items, protective and insulating wraps, agricultural films used in greenhouses and mulching, and industrial uses such as cable wraps and moisture barriers. Plastfolier may be designed for heat sealing, easy tear, or specific sealing technologies aligned with packaging lines.

Environmental and regulatory considerations are relevant to plastfolier. Plastic films contribute to waste streams, and recyclability depends on polymer type and local facilities. Films are often recycled separately from rigid plastics, and contamination can reduce processing quality. Some films are designed for recycling or for compostable alternatives, but end-of-life options vary by region. Reducing usage, selecting recyclable grades and participating in appropriate recycling programs can mitigate impacts.
