A photomosfet is a type of electronic switch that combines the characteristics of a phototransistor and a metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET). It is designed to operate as an optically controlled semiconductor device, enabling the control of electrical signals through light illumination rather than direct electrical contact. This feature makes photomosfets useful in applications requiring isolation between control and load circuits.

The device typically consists of a photodiode or phototransistor built on the same semiconductor substrate as a MOSFET. When exposed to light, the photodiode generates charge carriers, which in turn activate the MOSFET, allowing current to flow between the drain and source terminals.
