Panelstycke is a term used in Swedish architecture and interior design to describe a single unit of a paneled wall. A panelstycke consists of a central panel area, usually rectangular, surrounded by mouldings or framing elements. Several panelstycken are assembled to form a paneled surface, a feature commonly found in traditional Swedish interiors.

Origin and use: Panelväggar and panelstycken have a long history in Sweden, appearing in noble homes, manors, and public buildings from the 17th through the 19th century. The style is associated with Baroque and Classicist interiors, and it has seen revivals in later periods, including national romantic and early modern contexts. Panelstycken were valued for their decorative versatility as well as for helping to insulate and finish interior walls.

Materials and construction: Traditionally, panelstycken were cut from solid timber such as pine or oak and finished with paint, stain, or glaze. In more recent times, veneered panels or medium-density fibreboard (MDF) have been used.
