Palletbelading, or pallet loading, is the process of arranging and securing goods on a pallet to create a stable, transportable unit for shipment or storage. The aim is to optimize handling, protection, and space utilization by creating a consistent load that can be moved with standard equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.

Pallets come in several sizes and constructions. The most common in Europe is the EUR-pallet, measuring 800 by 1200 millimeters, while in North America a GMA pallet of about 1016 by 1219 millimeters is widespread. Materials include wood, plastic, and metal, with load capacities varying widely based on pallet design and condition. Proper pallet choice depends on the nature of the goods, stacking height, and handling equipment.

Loading methods can be manual or mechanical. Manual palletizing uses pallet jacks or forklifts for placement, while high-volume operations employ automated palletizers. After loading, goods are secured with stretch wrap or banding to prevent shifting. Patterns such as column stacking or brick/block patterns help distribute weight evenly and improve stability, reduce leaning, and minimize damage during transport. Ensuring even weight distribution and avoiding overhang are important for safe handling and stacking integrity.

Safety and standards govern pallet loading. Guidelines address maximum load per pallet, stacking height, securing methods, and the prohibition of unsafe practices. Training, personal protective equipment, and regular inspection of pallets are common requirements. Labeling and traceability may accompany palletized loads to support inventory control and logistics tracking.

Pallet loading is essential in warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, and retail supply chains. It enables efficient storage, streamlined handling, and easier transport, with practices often adapting to regional standards, equipment availability, and sustainability initiatives such as pallet pooling and the use of returnable pallets.
